CASE STUDY

Operational & people transformation

In 2015, PPC Zimbabwe was building a new factory in the Southern Region (Harare), which would need to be staffed. Their mine and factory in the North were plagued with significant process variations and poor engineering skills and practices. Furthermore, there was compelling evidence of significant misalignment of top, senior and first-line management.

OIM was asked to implement an integrated operational transformation programme and operational readiness for the new plant. The project was so successful that a similar one was rolled out at PPC Rwanda in late 2018.

Both projects focused on making operations more efficient and effective through process standardisation and emphasis on people priorities, supported by strong change management and alignment to PPC’s corporate strategy – ensuring value creation that addressed PPC Zimbabwe’s and Rwanda’s most pressing strategic challenges.

“Maturity on the supervisory level has improved significantly, and this will make a difference in the rest of their lives. This was the right programme at the right time. It was an exceptional intervention, which will lead to long-term improvement in the supervisors and lies of young leaders.”
